Frequency of Sexual Dysfunction Among Female Patients with CKD

Background

Chronic kidney disease is a slow and progressive loss of kidney function over a period of years. Sexual dysfunction is common in people with chronic kidney disease. In our society sexual health issues are not routinely discussed by patients and nephrologists. It is very important to address such issues in order to identify such patients who are suffering from sexual dysfunction and who need treatment, that’s why this study was planned.

Methods

Study Deign: Cross sectional study
Setting: Indoor and outpatient Nephrology department of Mayo Hospital Lahore
Duration: 06 months after approval of synopsis from 22/09/2022 to 21/03/2023
Data collection: After meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria 90 chronic kidney disease patients were enrolled. Informed consent and demographic detail was taken. CKD staging done using KDIGO staging guidelines and questions regarding sexual health problem and sexual satisfaction entered using FSF-I questionnaire.
All the collected data was entered and analyzed on SPSS version 20.0

Results

The mean age of the patients was 39.84±8.71 years, 33(36.67%) patients were illiterate and the mean duration of illness of the patients was 4.67±4.81 years. In our study sexual dysfunction was noted in 65(72.22%) patients.

Conclusion

As per findings of our study we may conclude that frequency of sexual dysfunction is 72.22% among female chronic kidney disease patients
