Background
Shear wave elastography (SWE) is a non-invasive ultrasound technique used for evaluating chronic renal parenchymal changes. Few of previous studies have focused on patients with glomerulonephritis. Our aim was to assess the use of SWE in glomerulonephritis patients and compare them with a CKD cohort.
Methods
This is a prospective study conducted outpatient nephrology clinics recruited patients with glomerulonephritis confirmed by kidney biopsy. The comparison group, CKD group were included particularly those with CKD 1-3. SWE was performed for all patients who consented to participate in the study.
Results
The Glomerulonephritis group had higher values for the Young’s modulus (Kpa) (M = 6.27) than the CKD group (M = 4.51). Univariate logistic regression analysis identified Young’s modulus to be a significant predictors of glomerulonephritis (all p < 0.05). After adjusting for potential confounders wtih a multivariable logistic regression, only age (B = -0.15, p = 0.013) and Young’s modulus (B = 0.98, p = 0.036) remained significant.
Conclusion
Tissue stiffness measurements were significantly elevated and independently associated with glomerulonephritis compared with patients with mild to moderate CKD.
Acknowledgment
We are grateful for out patients who agreed to particpate in the study.
A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the influence of confounding factors on Young’s modulus (Kpa) to predict the occurrence of Glomerulonephritis disease.

Logistic regression analysis showed that the model as a whole was significant (Chi2(6) = 41.46, p <.001, n = 50.00).
