The Cardiovascular-KIDNEY-Metabolic Framework for Nephrology Clinicians
Course Description
The Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic (CKM) framework recognizes the interconnectedness between obesity, diabetes, CKD, and CVD throughout the lifespan. This program aims to equip nephrology clinicians with a current understanding of overlapping CKM conditions, shared pathophysiological mechanisms, and the central role of CKD in the CKM framework to guide individual and population health goals. Evidence-based strategies for risk stratification, prevention, and management are highlighted, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary care. Through case-based discussions and pragmatic strategies for considering combination therapies, along with a risk-based approach and implementation guidance to champion a CKM multidisciplinary care model, this program helps nephrology clinicians translate a kidney-anchored CKM framework into everyday practice to improve patient outcomes.
ASN designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Course Objective(s)
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: 1) explain the interconnectedness between metabolic factors, CKD, and CVD, highlighting the central role of CKD as an anchoring element in the CKM framework; 2) describe evidence-based strategies for risk stratification, prevention, and management of overlapping CKM conditions in patients with or at risk for kidney diseases; 3) outline a holistic approach to risk-based use of combination therapies for clinical decision-making through multidisciplinary, case-based methods to improve patient outcomes; and 4) discuss best practices and current evidence for multidisciplinary care models that can leverage nephrology expertise as a foundation for coordinated CKM care.
