Clinical Practice Session
Electrolyte Landmines in Cancer Care: A Primer for Nephrology Professionals in 2026
October 24, 2026 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Mile High Ballroom 1D, Convention Center
Session Description
This session focuses on electrolyte disorders commonly encountered in patients with cancer, with an emphasis on therapeutic agent-induced electrolyte disorders and their management. In many instances, electrolyte disorders in cancer care can be addressed with basic knowledge of renal physiology. However, many novel therapeutic agents cause electrolyte disorders that are uncommon or challenging to treat. This session explores these issues in detail, focusing on mechanistic underpinnings, diagnosis, and treatment.
Learning Objective(s)
- Outline the causes and features of drug-induced tumor lysis syndrome (TLS)
- Discuss phosphate and magnesium disorders in patients with cancer
- Analyze electrolytes in the setting of cancer care and therapeutics to identify spurious results
- Assess abnormalities in endocrine and renal physiology in the setting of cancer care
Learning Pathway(s)
- Fluid‚ Electrolyte‚ and Acid-Base Disorders
- Onconephrology
