Clinical Practice Session
Optimizing Access and Outcomes in Pediatric Kidney Transplantation
October 22, 2026 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Mile High Ballroom 4A, Convention Center
Session Description
Despite advances in pediatric kidney transplantation, access and long-term outcomes still fall short. This session addresses emerging barriers to and implications for pediatric kidney transplant access, as well as the effects of therapeutic approaches on long-term outcomes. Speakers present new data on maintenance immunosuppression strategies, including evolving approaches beyond calcineurin inhibitors, and review contemporary evidence-based management of antibody-mediated rejection. Emphasis is placed on practical strategies to improve access and optimize kidney graft outcomes.
Learning Objective(s)
- Identify emerging patient-, provider-, and system-level barriers that limit access to pediatric kidney transplantation
- Explain the importance of timely wait-listing among adolescents with advanced kidney diseases
- Summarize recent advances and studies in maintenance immunosuppression and their implications for pediatric kidney transplant outcomes
- Describe contemporary approaches in the diagnosis and management of antibody-mediated rejection in children
Learning Pathway(s)
- Pediatric Nephrology
- Kidney Transplantation
