Clinical Practice Session
Navigating the Roadblocks: Strategies for Broadening Patient Access to Cutting-Edge Glomerular Disease Treatments
October 22, 2026 | 04:30 PM - 06:00 PM
Location: Mile High Ballroom 2, Convention Center
Session Description
Advances in research are yielding innovative therapies for both rare and common kidney diseases at an unprecedented pace. But true progress is measured by patient access and use, not just approval. This session examines the complex barriers to the broad distribution of newly approved therapies for glomerular diseases, including expansion to pediatric patients, global availability, insurance approval, and real-world evidence on efficacy and adverse effects.
ASN thanks the ASN Glomerular Diseases Collaborative Task Force for assistance with this session.
Learning Objective(s)
- Summarize the barriers to translating novel glomerular disease therapeutics to pediatric patients with kidney diseases
- Describe the barriers to global access to novel glomerular disease therapies
- Explain how to use real-world data to monitor for safety outside of clinical trial settings
- Identify practical, patient-centered strategies to reduce out-of-pocket medication costs, including generic alternatives, assistance programs, and copay foundations
