Basic/Clinical Science Session
CKD and Obesity: GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Other Management Strategies
October 22, 2026 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Four Seasons Ballroom 4, Convention Center
Session Description
Obesity and CKD are interrelated. With the rapid uptake of GLP-1 receptor agonists (RAs), used alone or in combination with other therapeutic approaches, for the management of patients with obesity and CKD, clinicians face practical issues related to safety, treatment combinations, complications, and discontinuation of therapy. This session updates medical knowledge and informs clinical practice on the use of GLP-1 RAs and other approaches in the management of obesity in patients with CKD.
Learning Objective(s)
- Describe the treatment options for the management of obesity in patients with CKD
- Describe the indications and contraindications for the use of GLP-1 RAs in patients with CKD
- Compare different management approaches for obesity in patients with CKD
- Identify and manage patients with CKD who require special considerations when prescribed GLP-1 RAs
