Hemodiafiltration in 2026: Rationale, Evidence, and the Path to Implementation

Session Description
Hemodiafiltration (HDF) has evolved from a promising technological advance into a therapy supported by an expanding mechanistic rationale, randomized controlled clinical trials, and large registry analyses. Several international studies suggest that, compared with high-flux hemodialysis, high-volume HDF has demonstrated potential survival and cardiovascular benefits. However, important evidence gaps remain, and adoption in the United States has been limited by operational, regulatory, and economic considerations. This symposium provides a balanced, evidence-based review of HDF, covering mechanistic rationale, trial and registry data, and remaining uncertainties. Practical considerations for implementation are also addressed, including infrastructure requirements, patient selection, workflow integration, and systems-level barriers.
Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis to fully paid Annual Meeting participants. Doors open approximately 15 minutes prior to each symposium. When a room reaches capacity, ASN will shut down access to the room. No other participants will be allowed to enter the room, regardless of the number of participants who exit the room during the activity.
