Description

The Vanderbilt Center for Kidney Disease (VCKD) and the Vanderbilt O’Brien Kidney Center (VOKC) are two complementary, but not overlapping Centers whose mission is to provide cores and services with the ultimate goal of facilitating translation of basic research into personalized care. The services provided by the two Centers are meant to help the scientific community to have the right support and tools as well as to select the right animal model, statistical analysis, and clinical study design to perform innovative research and translate discoveries into personalized care to prevent, diagnose and cure kidney disease. To achieve these goals, the VCKD has initiated a program in order to foster collaborative investigation into critical questions of kidney disease; to personalize diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease; and to disseminate information about kidney disease and the benefits of the VCKD research. This is complemented by state-of-the art cores provided by the VOKC, including the Phenotyping and Pathophysiology Core, the Histology and Molecular Pathology, the Cell and Genome Engineering Core and the Translational and Epidemiologic Core. These core are meant to help investigators in providing assays to determine physiologic and pathophysiologic mouse kidney function; histologic expertise and morphometric analysis of murine kidney disease; novel vectors for both in vitro and in vivo gene manipulation and therapy; isolated cells from human and mouse kidneys; and infrastructure for new and ongoing translational and epidemiologic studies related to chronic kidney disease.
The two Centers have an Education and Outreach program component whose goals are to provide an educational platform to enhance the study of kidney disease; to disseminate expertise in the study of kidney disease among investigators at a local, national and international level; to publicize information about services available through the two Centers; to streamline access to the services offered by the Centers; and to engage the community and provide information about kidney disease to patients and other interested members of the community.
We encourage you to visit our poster to learn more about the activities and services provided by the VCKD and VOKC.
